Modders have made thousands of excellent fixes, tweaks, and enhancements to Bethesda's 2015 post-apocalyptic RPG, and it's no easy task finding the best Fallout 4 mods among them.

Bethesda marketing executive Pete Hines indicates on Twitter that PS4 players waiting for Fallout 4 mod support will have to continue waiting indefinitely.

Fallout 4 is a quintessential Bethesda game in that it thrives well after its release due to the kind of modding community most developers could only dream of assembling post-release. While PC and Xbox One players have already experienced some of the best community-developed add-ons the post-apocalyptic RPG has to offer, however, gamers looking to use Fallout 4 mods on PS4 are still waiting for an opportunity to do so. Fallout 4 mod support for the PS4 was originally scheduled for June.

Those looking for an answer apparently aren’t going to find it from Bethesda, either – the developer’s marketing executive, Pete Hines, hinted strongly on Twitter yesterday that the process is one that Bethesda can’t speed up much more than it already has. When prompted by an impatient fan about the mod support’s lack of a concrete release date, Hines responded:

“Until evaluation is done there is no way to give a date. We don’t have a date when [evaluation] will be done.”

Although the reply seems vague at first glance, there is a fair amount to be inferred from Hines’ short statement. Bethesda has been consistent with Fallout 4patch releases for Xbox One and PC with few delays or issues, while the PS4 experience has often required extra days or weeks before implementation. Earlier in the month, Hines also suggested that Bethesda was working with Sony on Fallout 4 mod support, just days after this tweet:

Fallout 4 Mods Release Date For Ps4

While Bethesda and Hines have remained diplomatic, it’s hard not to speculate that the delay is on Sony rather than the developer. If that is in fact the cause of the delay, then PS4 gamers might be better off focusing on the upcoming Fallout 4 Nuka World expansion DLC than the lack of mod support, as the latter seems like an issue that could continue for the foreseeable future.

Of course, when a game has the kind of burgeoning player-based development community like Fallout 4 does, it can be hard to ignore the fact that only one platform is currently being left out in the cold. Bethesda might have already filed a trademark for the next instalment in the series, Fallout: New Orleans, and it would be a bizarre situation indeed if there was already a new Fallout game in development before the PS4 was able to support mods for the most recent one.

What do you make of the continued lack of updates on Fallout 4‘s PS4 mod support? Do you think it’s correct to assume Sony is largely responsible for the delay, or do you believe other factors are at play as well? Let us know in the comments below.
