Importing Pst Into Windows Live Mail

Here you will find a relatively quick process for moving from Outlook to Windows Live Mail. I found this process while moving a client to her new computer. During the process of this migration, she decided to use Open Office as the replacement for Office XP. As a result, a new mail client had to be found. Windows Live Mail seemed the obvious choice. The overall difficulty is very low in my opinion, but keep in mind that we will need to take a detour through Thunderbird to get there.

Step 1: Ready Thunderbird
Download and install Mozilla Thunderbird. A simple Google search should take you to the appropriate place to download the program. After installing, configure Thunderbird as if you were going to use it as your email client.
NOTE: I highly recommend unchecking the box during the install that enables Thunderbird to be your default mail client unless you chose to keep Thunderbird for that purpose.
Step 2: Install Import/Export Add-on
From the Tools menu you can access Thunderbird's add-on section. In this section search for and install the ImportExportTools add-on.
Step 3: Ready Outlook
If you are doing this migration simply from Outlook to Live Mail on the same computer, you should be set to go to Step 4. If you are transferring the Outlook files (PST files) to another computer, then you will need to install the trial version of Office (with Outlook). Again, Google does wonders.
If transferring to a new computer and after Outlook is installed, configure Outlook as if you intended to use the trial, and import the PST files into your temporary Outlook installation. After this is complete, proceed to Step 4.
NOTE: Be certain that the emails have reached the appropriate folder in the temporary installation of Outlook (e.g. Inbox messages from your previous installation made it to the Inbox of your trial installation).
NOTE: The location of your PST files will vary based on your version of Windows. Google, that is all.
Step 4: Import Outlook messages into Thunderbird, step 1
Back in the Thunderbird installation, return to the Tools menu. From there, choose 'Import...'
Step 5: Import Outlook messages into Thunderbird, step 2
In the Import dialog, choose the appropriate setting based on your situation. Due to the fact that I was only moving email for my client, I only chose the email option. After making your decision, click Next.
NOTE: If you have a large number of emails, you may find it best to transfer the emails separately (or even in small sections by transferring emails and deleting from Outlook those that successfully transferred).
Step 6: Import Outlook messages into Thunderbird, step 3
On the next screen, choose Outlook and click Next. Thunderbird should see your previously configured Outlook account...

...And automatically import your messages.

It will show a summary of the imported items upon completion. Click Finish
Step 9: Export messages from Thunderbird in EML format
Back at the main Thunderbird tab, you should see a new folder titled 'Outlook Import'. In this folder should be all of the items you imported from the previous steps. Choose a folder. Under the Tools menu (again), you will find ImportExportTools which will open to a sub-menu. Select 'Export all messages in the folder'. A sub-sub-menu will appear. Select the EML format. Select a destination folder. Repeat for all desired email folders.
NOTE: After this step, you should be finished with Thunderbird.
Step 10: Ready Windows Live Mail
Download and install (if needed) Windows Live Mail (hereafter, WLM). Configure WLM for use as your email client.
NOTE: You will need to recreate any custom folders from Outlook.
Step 11: Drag and drop into WLM
With WLM and the destination folder (the one with the eml files) open, simply drag and drop the messages from the folder into the appropriate WLM email folder.
That should do it for the migration. As I said in the introduction, I believe this to be a relatively simple process. I have tested this process with Office XP, 2003 and 2010. I make no claims that this process will work with older versions of Office. As usual, make a backup of all PST files before attempting this migration process.
And before anyone gives me a hard time about having SpiceWorks emails in the Junk Mail folder, I could not use my Inbox due to HIPAA. So, I just grabbed a couple of emails from another folder and put them into an empty folder for this How-To.

I am non technical person and tried performing these manual methods but found that the method is very lengthy & is consuming much of the time. So, one of my friend suggested me GainTools PST to EML converter to transfer emails from Outlook PST file to EML format for Windows live mail. The tool works very well & has converted my PST files without taking much time. You can also convert PST file to MBOX format for Thunderbird by using this single tool.

The above method is awesome but it's too technical. As I dont know anything about technology, so I had preferred automatic solution. SysTools PST Converter Tool is brilliant software for this task.
